Vet1 IOPVET Tonometer

The IOPvet device is designed for ease of use and is set to revolutionise the detection of high eye pressure in veterinary settings. The first of its kind, the IOPvet is designed for use by general Veterinary practitioners, Veterinary ophthalmologists and Veterinary medical personnel. It is the first disposable device for assessing high eye pressure in animals, providing vets with a convenient, low-cost solution for the assessment of high eye pressure.

IOPvet is a simple handheld device that is easily applied to the animal’s eye and provides a stop light system indication of pressure. Green – normal (less than 21 mm Hg), Orange – needs further investigation and Red – high, urgent attention required. High eye pressure is a condition that Vets can have difficulty detecting. It is an indicator of early-stage Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness in animals and early detection and ongoing assessment are crucial.

Usability

The device is designed to go to a maximum reading of around 30 to 35mm Hg. The device was always designed as an aid for primary health practitioners to determine if a patient should be sent to a Specialist. So, if the needle gets to the red zone, then referral is required. It is expected that a specialist then has a device that can provide the exact reading.
