Veterinary practice guidelines recommend the continuous monitoring and recording of oxygenation and ventilation to adequately manage anesthetized animal patients, and note that pulse oximetry is valuable in detecting life-threatening complications. Proper patient management during recovery from surgery and anesthesia is particularly critical for animals: over 60% of all post-surgical animal deaths occur in the postoperative setting; more than 70% of these deaths are related to cardiovascular or respiratory problems.

Masimo offers a wide range of monitoring solutions, building on the same industry-leading Masimo SET® pulse oximetry used on more than 100 million human patients a year.3 From portable capnography devices to bedside pulse oximeters and a variety of advanced monitoring solutions, Masimo helps deliver high-quality care to patients across the continuum of care.

Masimo SET® Measure-through Motion and Low Perfusion™ Pulse Oximetry

Masimo’s breakthrough Signal Extraction Technology® (SET®) overcomes the limitations of conventional pulse oximetry with the ability to measure-through motion and low perfusion. Masimo SET® supports clinicians in providing a high level of care during anesthesia-induced surgical procedures and postoperative recovery, when their patients are often most at risk. SET® is available on an assortment of reusable and single-patient-use sensors appropriate for multiple monitoring sites, including the Y-I and TC-I clip sensors, which are shaped to accommodate placement in a variety of locations, and the TFA-1™ and TF-I® transflectance sensors, which are designed to reliably monitor patients with low peripheral perfusion.

NomoLine® Capnography

Masimo offers a complete portfolio of capnography and gas monitoring solutions, both sidestream and mainstream, to meet the challenges of ventilation and gas monitoring across care areas. Solutions range from external “plug in and measure” gas analyzers to bedside and handheld devices featuring NomoLine technology. NomoLine’s versatility allows it to accurately monitor patients with low tidal volumes and high breath rates. In addition, NomoLine technology needs only minimal warm-up time and performs automatic calibration at startup and once every 24 hours, for convenient use and easy maintenance.

NomoLine sampling lines eliminate common problems associated with conventional sidestream gas analysis. Incorporating a unique, patented polymer, NomoLine allows water in the sampling line to evaporate into the surrounding air, while leaving oxygen and carbon dioxide unaffected, eliminating the need for a water trap and issues related to their handling.

Brain Monitoring with SedLine® and O3

SedLine and O3 Regional Oximetry

Brain function monitoring provides real-time insight into a patient’s depth of anesthesia. To facilitate timely assessment of patient status, SedLine provides the Patient State Index (PSi), a processed EEG parameter that provides information about a patient’s response to anesthesia. In addition, O3 regional oximetry may help clinicians monitor cerebral oxygenation in situations in which peripheral pulse oximetry alone may not be fully indicative of the oxygen in the brain. Both SedLine and O3 are available for simultaneous use on the Root® platform.

Flexible Patient Monitoring Solutions

EMMA Capnograph

The American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) guidelines recommend the use of capnography to monitor the ventilation status of patients under anesthesia.1,4 The EMMA capnograph is Masimo’s most cost-effective method for monitoring end-tidal CO2 and respiratory rate during anesthesia, postoperative recovery, and respiratory care. EMMA is portable, durable, water resistant, lightweight, and fits easily into a breathing circuit.
